Bird Conservation Society, Gujarat

Bird Conservation Society, Gujarat (BCSG) was founded in 2000 with the objective of conservation of birds of the state through field research, documentation, training, awareness activities, networking with like-minded NGOs; and lobbying for protection of birds and their habitats. It is the only statewide network of bird-watchers, ornithologists and conservationists of Gujarat striving to achieve the above goal. The society is an NGO registered as Trust with the charity commissioner.

The society was founded on Feb 2000, birth day of its founder president Late Shri Lavkumar Khachar.

 
 

Aims And Objective

  • To work for the protection and conservation of birds and their habitat (including Sanctuaries, National Parks and other areas) in Gujarat and support the same cause in India in general.
  • To establish a network of individuals and institutions engaged in bird conservation activity, identify important bird areas of Gujarat and study and monitor bird life and their habitats.
  • To inculcate interest among people, especially young generation in birds emphasizing its aesthetic value and ecological importance.
  • To impart training in Ornithology / Natural History of Birds to the interested individuals.
  • To carry out specific and continuous research on avifauna and its ecology.
  • To publish the findings / results of the surveys, records, etc. on a routine basis for the benefit of bird life.
  • To establish contacts with Universities, Institutes, Organizations in India and abroad, involved in such work and share experience, knowledge and information with them.
  • To identify, monitor and restore the population trend of some endangered and threatened species in the state.
  • To collaborate, support and charge such or related work by other individuals or institutions.
  • To actively pursue issues related to bird conservation through lobbying, seeking justice through law or media campaign.
  • To explore and communicate ideas and world trend processes in these branches and to arrange lectures, organize programmes, exhibitions, seminars, symposia, group discussions and such other functions as may be conducive to the attainment of the objectives of the society.
  • To do all or any of the above mentioned acts solely or with another or others, for joint management or collaboration or affiliation or any other arrangements with societies or persons having similar or allied objects which may further or benefit the objects of this society.
