Asian Waterbird Census 2020

The recommended dates for the AWC 2020 counts are Saturday 4 to Sunday 19, January 2020, covering two weeks and three weekends, when we should count waterbirds and create awareness about importance of Wetlands. These dates are for guidance only and waterbird counts from any date in January are very much welcome. All are requested to make use of the holidays and try to cover maximum number of wetlands.
Wetland Site and Count forms in word format are attached here with along with instructions for census. Kindly get them printed as per your requirements. This will help you to fill up many of the information on the spot. In wetland site information, please do not leave any blank entry as we want to keep upto date information on the wetland sites. I am still circulating printable word document forms so that the participants who are not well versed with computer or internet can still contribute to this important annual event. I strongly believe that this is a programme for all and not only for computer and mobile savvy birdwatchers!!!
Normally we think that a wetland full of water and waterbirds is worth reporting. But for AWC, it is half true as AWC is a wetland and waterbird monitoring programme. You are supposed to fill up the form, even if there is no water or waterfowl or both in the wetland. Every year, coverage of a particular site is very much important. That helps to understand the crises being faced by the wetland.

Offline count & Site form (excel), Standard AWC Methodology for bird counting and site boundary digitizing are being sent only by mail.

Our participants have covered about 83 wetlands from 12 Districts of Gujarat last year in January 2019. Details of sites counted in each district are given below.

Jamnagar 12, Kachchh 29, Bhavnagar 20, Rajkot 12, Amreli 05, Anand 11, Kheda 05, Porbandar 10, Vadodara 11, Bharuch 03, Surat 03, Panchmahal 01
Total Sites Counted in Gujarat = 122
